Rising consumer culture, fueled by marketing, TikTok trends, and fast fashion, has rapidly expanded the industry. Today, brands produce nearly twice as much clothing as before 2000, but price tags rarely reflect the true cost. The textile industry accounts for 8–10% of global emissions and is one of the biggest polluters, harming soil, water, air, and human health.

CHAINS brings these hidden costs into view, right in the middle of the shopping experience. This interactive AR exhibit places visitors in two realities: a physical store and a hidden digital space accessed through the Artivive app. By scanning objects like price tags, visitors uncover the environmental and social impacts behind the clothes.

Standing between two realities, the glossy aesthetics of the store and the striking environmental and social consequences behind the clothes, the exhibit shows that the dirt and the beauty are inextricably intertwined in the same.
